  29. ========

  31. Power Install is designed to make installing files and applications to 
  32. your 3Com PalmPilot or IBM WorkPad faster and easier.
  33.  
  34. Power Install is being released as SHAREWARE and you are granted a 
  35. license to use it free of charge for 30 days.  To use Power Install 
  36. beyond the 30 day trial period, you must purchase a registered copy (see 
  37. below or point your web browser at "http://www.fastmoto.com" for more 
  38. details).

  41. What it Does
  42. ============
  43.  
  44. Power Install schedules files to be installed next time you HotSync your 
  45. PalmPilot. 
  46.  
  47. As an improvement on the Install Tool included with PalmPilot Desktop, 
  48. Power Install offers more advanced features and easier installation of 
  49. multiple files.
  50.  
  51. Once files have been scheduled for installation, you can then HotSync 
  52. your PalmPilot to have the new files installed on it.

  55. Key Features
  56. ============

  58. - Drag-and-drop installations!  
  59.   
  60.   Simply drag one or more files to be installed from a Windows Explorer 
  61.   file window to the Power Install window, icon, or a shortcut to Power 
  62.   Install to schedule the file for installation during your next 
  63.   HotSync.
  64.   
  65. - File backup control  
  66.  
  67.   By setting the backup flag on files you install to your PalmPilot, you 
  68.   can insure that they are backed up when you HotSync.  In the event of 
  69.   a hard reset, your applications will now be automatically restored 
  70.   when you HotSync.  Additionally, files in the backup directory can be 
  71.   removed from within Power Install's user interface.

  73. - Custom Options
  74.  
  75.   Set a default user on PC's with multiple PalmPilot users.  Activate an
  76.   audible alert to confirm installations when dragging to the icon to 
  77.   install.  One-button reconfiguration when upgrading versions of 
  78.   PalmPilot Desktop (version 1.x, 2.x compatible).

  80. - Advanced Command Line Options
  81.  
  82.   Power Install will recognize multiple file names on the command line 
  83.   and schedule them for installation.  This can be combined with flags 
  84.   to install files for one or all of the PalmPilot users working off the 
  85.   PC.

  88. Installing Power Install
  89. ========================
  90.  
  91. Copy the PINSTALL.EXE file to any location on your computer and double 
  92. click on the file from within a Windows Explorer dialog.
  93.  
  94. You may also create a shortcut to the file on your Windows desktop and 
  95. drag files to it for installation.
  96.  
  97. NOTE: Power Install makes use of Microsoft's MFC42.DLL and MSVCRT.DLL.  
  98.       These files must be present in your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory for 
  99.       Power Install to function properly.  If you do not have these 
  100.       .DLL's installed, you can download a copy from our web site at:

  104. System Requirements
  105. ===================
  106.  
  107. - Windows '95, Windows NT 4.0, or later
  108.  
  109. - PalmPilot Desktop/HotSync Manager 1.x or 2.x

  120. How it Works
  121. ============
  122.  
  123. There are three ways in which you can use Power Install to install files 
  124. to your PalmPilot:
  125.  
  126. Installing Files
  127. ----------------
  128.  
  129. Via the Interface
  130.  
  131.       Browse Button
  132.  
  133.       Run Power Install and select the "Browse..." button on the main 
  134.       window.  This will display a file selection dialog where you can 
  135.       select one or more files to be installed.
  136.  
  137.       Drag-to-List
  138.  
  139.       With Power Install running, select one or more files in an 
  140.       Explorer or File Manager window and drag the selected files to the 
  141.       list of pending installs in Power Install.  
  142.  
  143. Drag-to-Icon
  144.  
  145.       Select one or more files in an Explorer or File Manager window and
  146.       drag the selected files to application icon for Power Install.  
  147.       This can be done in the Explorer window that contains Power 
  148.       Install, or to a shortcut to Power Install.
  149.

  151. File Properties
  152. ---------------
  153.  
  154. To display properties for a file in your list of Pending Installs or 
  155. your Backup directory, select the file and press the "Properties.." 
  156. button.
  157.  
  158. Once the Properties dialog appears you will see the following 
  159. information:
  160.  
  161. Name        - The name displayed on the PalmPilot.
  162. Format      - Type of PalmPilot file.
  163. Backup      - Backup bit status.  Set to "On" to have the file backed up 
  164.               during HotSync.
  165. Type ID     - The type of PalmPilot file.
  166. Creator ID  - The creator ID issued by the files creator.
  167.  
  168. Filename    - The filename on the PC.
  169. Location    - The location of the file on the PC.
  170. Size        - The size of the file.
  171.  
  172.  
  173. NOTE: Only the Backup status may be modified on the Properties dialog.  
  174.       The other fields are provided for informational purposes only.

  177. Removing Files
  178. --------------
  179.  
  180. If you would like to remove a file from your list of Pending Installs or 
  181. your Backup directory.  Select the file in the file list and press the 
  182. "Remove.." button.  If you have the "Confirm Removes" option selected 
  183. (the default), you will see a confirmation dialog.  Otherwise the file 
  184. will be instantly removed from the list.
  185.  
  186. Removing files only occurs on your PC.  It will not affect files 
  187. currently on your PalmPilot.
  188.  
  189. NOTE: If you remove a file from the Backup list, keep in mind that the 
  190.       file will be backed up again during your next HotSync if it still 
  191.       exists on your PalmPilot.
  192.

  194. Options
  195. =======
  196.  
  197. To access the Options dialog, click on the system menu in the upper left 
  198. corner of the main Power Install dialog.  Select "Options..." to display 
  199. the dialog.
  200.  
  201. Settings:
  202.  
  203. Default User
  204.       This is the name of the user to install files to when dragging 
  205.       files to the Power Install icon without actually executing the 
  206.       application.  This allows for easy installation on single user 
  207.       machines or if you would like to create a shortcut to Power 
  208.       Install and want a streamlined way of installing files.  Be sure 
  209.       to un-check the "Confirm Drag-to-Icon Installs" option if you want 
  210.       to have installs occur without having a dialog box appear.
  211.  
  212. Confirm Drag-to-Icon Installs
  213.       Check this options if you would like to have a user list appear 
  214.       when dragging a file to the Power Install icon or a shortcut to 
  215.       Power Install on the desktop.  This option is primarily intended 
  216.       for PC's shared by multiple PalmPilot users, or if you prefer to 
  217.       have a dialog appear when installing.  If this option is 
  218.       unchecked, and no Default User has been set, a user list will 
  219.       still appear on Drag-to-Icon installs.

  221. Confirm Remove
  222.       Check this option to have a confirmation dialog appear when you 
  223.       select the "Remove..." button in the main Power Install dialog.  
  224.       If you do not have this option selected, the selected file is 
  225.       immediately removed from the list of pending installs.
  226.  
  227. Beep on Drag-to-Icon Installs
  228.       Check this option if you would like to have an audible beep to 
  229.       confirm that a file has been scheduled for installation when doing 
  230.       a Drag-to-Icon install.
  231.  
  232. Configuration
  233.       This field displays the current HotSync Manager configuration 
  234.       being used by Power Install.  The software will recognize either a 
  235.       HotSync Manager 1.x or 2.x installation.  If you originally were 
  236.       using Power Install with version 1.x and upgrade to a version or    
  237.       PalmPilot Desktop or equivalent product that includes HotSync 
  238.       Manager 2.x, press the "Re-Config" button next to this option to 
  239.       have Power Install update itself to use the new configuration.

  242. Command Line Parameters
  243. =======================
  244.  
  245. Power Install supports command line parameters to allow for drag-to-icon 
  246. installs to simultaneously start the application and install 
  247. applications without displaying the main application dialog.
  248.  
  249. NOTE: If you are using an UNREGISTERED shareware version of Power 
  250.       Install, you will see a reminder dialog.  Registered versions do 
  251.       not display this additional dialog on startup.
  252.

  254. PInstall [file ...]
  255.  
  256.       If only one user exists in the User Database, or a Default User 
  257.       has been selected in the options dialog, the files on the 
  258.       command line will be scheduled for installation with no further 
  259.       user interaction.
  260.  
  261.       If there are multiple users in the User Database and no Default 
  262.       User has been selected, or the "Confirm Drag-to-Icon Installs"
  263.       option is selected, a list of existing users will be displayed 
  264.       to select from.
  265.  
  266.  
  267. PInstall -u"<username>" [file ...]
  268.  
  269.       For the specified user, the list of files on the command line 
  270.       will be scheduled for installation.  If the username includes 
  271.       spaces, be sure to include quotes around it.

  281.       If no files are specified, the application will start and display 
  282.       the list of pending installs for the username specified.

  285. Parse -all [file ...]
  286.  
  287.       For all PalmPilot users, the list of files on the command line 
  288.       will be scheduled for installation.
  289.  
  290.       If no files are specified, the application will start normally and
  291.       display the list of pending installs for the last or default user.

  294. How to Register
  295. ===============

  297. The registration fee for Power Install is $11.95 (US) which will get you 
  298. a Registration Code that can be entered into the Registration Dialog to 
  299. create a licensed version of Power Install as well as disable the 
  300. registration reminder dialogs.
  301.  
  302. Once you register your copy of Power Install, you will be registered for 
  303. any and all updates for the product.  While any new versions downloaded 
  304. to your computer should automatically detect your existing Registration 
  305. Code, be sure to keep a record of it.

  344. BY USING THE SOFTWARE, YOU ARE CONSENTING TO BE BOUND BY 
  345. THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO ALL 
  346. OF THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT, DO NOT USE THIS SOFTWARE.

  350. This Agreement sets forth the terms and conditions of your use of
  351. the accompanying Power Install software product(s) (the "Software").

  353. This Agreement has 2 parts.  Part I applies if you have a SHAREWARE
  354. version of the Software.  Part II applies if you have purchased a 
  355. license to the Software and have either a Registration Code or a NON-
  356. SHAREWARE version of the Software.

  358. If you initially acquired a copy of the Software free of charge 
  359. and you wish to purchase a registration code, contact FastMoto Inc. on 
  360. the Internet at "http://www.fastmoto.com"

  363. PART I - TERMS APPLICABLE WHEN LICENSE FEES NOT (YET) PAID
  364. (LIMITED TO SHAREWARE VERSIONS)

  366. LICENSE GRANT.  You are granted a non-exclusive license to
  367. use the Software free of charge for 30 days for the purpose 
  368. of evaluating whether to purchase an ongoing license to the 
  369. Software.  If you are using the Software free of charge, you 
  370. are not entitled to support or telephone assistance.

  372. You may:

  374. * use the SHAREWARE version of Software on any single computer;
  375.  
  376. * copy and distribute the SHAREWARE version of the Software
  377. as long as the following criteria are met:

  379.     - You must include all files you originally 
  380.       received when you acquired the software.

  382.     - You may NOT include a Registration Code.
  383.       
  384.     - This license agreement must accompany the Software
  385.       in an unaltered form.

  387.     - No fee may be charged for the Software except when 
  388.       the Software is provided on a physical media such
  389.       as a diskette, or CD-ROM and it is made clear to
  390.       the recipient that the fee is not a license for use
  391.       of the Software but for the cost of distribution.

  407. * use a Registration Code or licensed version of the Software 
  408. on a second computer so long as only one (1) licensed copy is 
  409. used at a time;

  411. * use the Software on a network, provided that a Registration Code
  412. or licensed copy of the Software has been acquired for each person
  413. permitted to access the Software through the network;

  417. You may not:

  419. * permit other individuals to use a Registration Code or licensed 
  420. version of the Software except under the terms listed above;
